Patience has paid off

We got that surprise email I had been hoping for.
Sorry for the long post.

This last Wednesday we were both at work. I was walking into a meeting, sat down, and starting looking over emails on my blackberry. I opened up an email and it was address to Caleb and me. I then looked at who it was from and the subject line. I jumped out of my chair, ran into the hallway and called Caleb. Here is how the conversation went:
K: did you just get am email from our agency?
C: no, when?
K: right now.
C: nope.
K: I have our referral email, where can you meet me? You know I will not be able to wait. Where has wifi? we can go to Burger King ( I laugh at this one now) or a library. I want to be able to use a laptop so we can pull up everything big and not look at this on one of our phones.
C: what time can you go?
K: right now. How about home?
C: home would be the best. See you there in 30 min.

I walked in the house and Caleb was home. Into the office we both went. I am not sure I have ever felt the way I did at hat moment. We have waited so long for this and now it is happening. We read through all of the paperwork that was sent to us and couldn't be happier. We wanted to have a Dr. look over the medical records just to be safe. (We have never had a kids Dr. so I called my sis-n-law. When she answered I asked if I could get her baby's Dr. name and phone number. She gave it to me then asked why. I said no reason she told me she thinks I am lying. I told her I would cal her back in a bit and hung up on her. Sorry Chelsea.) I ran the paperwork to the Dr. and they couldn't see any concerns with his medical records. I called the agency and told the girl on the phone how much she has made my day. I think I told her I loved her 7 times. We signed our official acceptance letter and mailed it off. We called our parents and I sent a text to all of our siblings letting them know the great news. Now we patiently wait to find out when our official court date is. Keep your fingers crossed it will be soon.

July 7, 2010 has changed our lives forever
and we couldn't be more excited.

New Look

I decided it was time to make a change to our blog. Not sure it is done but good enough for me at this point. I am a little tired of using photoshop for now and I need to let the creative juices build back up.

Still Waiting

I emailed the agency about a week ago to see if there was any new news. The person I spoke with said no but they are changing they way the paperwork is done to try to help with the long periods of waiting. They also said that they are starting to work with two more orphanages. That was good news. I just wish the next step would happen.

Another thought....I would consider myself an "e" stalker when it comes to people's blogs. (Just ask Caleb he will agree to this 100%) I like to read the blogs of other families who have adopted or are in the process. To read the stories both good and bad are interesting to me. While reading them I try to consider if their story is close to ours. If the people had a good experience will we as well? I have read a few stories about trouble with agencies, loss of a child and the heartache with adopting. I feel like we have and continue to do the research we need to do. I know this is what we are meant to do. I hope that our adventure has as few bumps in the road as possible. If there are pot holes i hope we can put our lives into four wheel drive and get past them. I hope to learn all I can be it good or bad and either apply what I have learned or disregard it as needed.

HaPpY 4th of July. I hope everyone gets to celebrate their Independence with their families.

Seeing the results over time

A friend of mine just came home last week with their handsome baby boy. He and his wife are going through the same agency as we are. Having them ahead of us in the process has been so good for me. I have relied on their knowledge to help make this journey the best it can be. If it wasn't for them introducing us to the agency who knows where we would be. Seeing the love, patience, stress, emotion, pain and joy that they have faced is overwhelming. Seeing the pictures and hearing the story of their trip is beautiful. I know that their son will be loved and blessed with the parents and family he has been given.

I know that Good things happen to those that wait.
So we will continue to patiently wait.
Knowing that the outcome will be great.

Not getting my Hopes up...

Yesterday Caleb and I had the same idea. I had already sent an email by the time I got Caleb's text. We both thought it would be good to check in with our agency. I was a little nervous to send my email. Why would I be nervous? People ask us all the time if we have any new news. We don't have any new news. I was thinking about this Monday night. I don't call or email the agency for mental reasons. If I don't know time frames I will not get my hopes up. Couples who go through adoptions are so emotionally involved from the very start. I don't need to add to it. I talked to the agency today on the phone and they did not have any updates on when we may have a referral. At this point we are still in the waiting stage. I hope we get a surprise call or email when the time is right. Not knowing helps keep my emotions and sanity in check. For now at least. Which is great for us.

We are going to start working on his room again. I have kind of put it on hold for a while. We have been busy with so many other things. I have also been trying to figure out how I want to finish the room. I have so many cute ideas, I just can't decide which ones to move forward with.

What's in a Name?

One of the most frequent questions Caleb and I get asked is "Do we have a name picked out?" Should we already know what we want to name our child? The only thing we have talked about is possibly keeping the given birth name as the first or middle name of our child. Being that we do not know what that is at this point we really do not even think about names. Most biological parents have a few names in mind or have had a name that they have always wanted to name his or her child. Once they see their baby they know if the name they have been thinking of fits. We don't know what our child will look like or have any clue what to name our child. For now, no name = no problem for us.

We get asked random questions quite often. Some of them catch me pretty off guard. I do not mind answering anything about our adoption process. Similar to the name question there are a lot of things that we really have not thought about. Why? Some questions depend on how old our child will be by the time we get him in our arms. Once we actually know details of who he is we will be able to really start answering some of these questions.

Our newest purchase

Caleb's sister sent him a text, she said she had her daughter's old car seat that we can have if we want it. She mentioned that Babies R Us was doing a trade in promo. If you take in an old stroller, car seat, anything really they will give you a voucher for 25% off a single item. The item had to be a stroller, car seat, crib, high chair or a pack-n-play. Since really the only things we can buy at this point are big items this was going to be great. We went and picked up the old car seat last Sunday evening. Since we had Monday off we ran to Babies R Us. We traded in the old and walked away with something new. This is what we got.....
